The DriveSmarter Driver Training Modules

Here is a brief description of our main driver training modules. New modules are always in production and we will be pleased to run through them with you. Please contact us to discuss your requirements in more detail.

1 Proactive Safety - Watch Demo
An introductory film looking at what’s involved in proactively reducing risk on the road. We examine vehicle roadworthiness and driver fitness as well as taking time to understand reaction times. There are tips on how to deliver a meaningful commentary drive.

2 Mobile Office
We demonstrate the dangers of driving when there are distractions. At the same time we attempt to show the safety benefits of leaving your mobile off and building in regular journey breaks to keep alert and check messages

3 Speeding and stopping - Watch Demo
A look at just how much space and time you need to stop your vehicle when you’re travelling at various speeds. Do Highway Code distances help at all? How do we know what 96 metres means at 70 miles an hour? Our film offers tips for staying safe at different speeds.

4 Night Driving
What happens to your eyes and the messages your brain can deal with when night falls? Why do crash risks rise at night? What can you see? What could you be thinking about to reduce your chances of having a crash at night? We reveal.

5 Bad Weather
Tips for journey planning and dealing with the worst of the elements. Driving through floods, fog, snow and ice are covered, with sound advice on steering clear of trouble.

6 City driving
This includes information on drink-driving and drug-driving issues, as well as advice on staying cool in the often high-pressure environment of the urban road network.

7 Self Control
Why do we react the way we do when other drivers offend us? Is there a way of controlling this? We look at methods for identifying possible flashpoints and being able to stay in control, whatever we might think of the other person.

8 Motorway Survival Guide
Motorways are statistically our safest roads, yet any crashes that do occur are likely to be among the most severe, largely because of the speeds involved. Follow our tips and you can reduce to an absolute minimum your chances of being involved in a motorway collision.

9 Out of town - Watch Demo
Driving in the country can be exhilarating and enjoyable – yet the array of hazards and risk we face is often greater than on any other roads. As well as thinking for ourselves, we have to think for the horse and rider, the tractor driver, the speeding motorcyclist, the lost holidaymakers and the wild deer that may not be as aware of the risks as we are.

10 Marion’s Story
We hear what happened when Marion Cornick’s daughter was killed by a driver who lost control. Marion describes the police arriving, the funeral arrangements and even the flowers on her daughter’s coffin. This, we believe, is a powerful way of making everyone sit up and be aware of their own vulnerability.

11 Time and Journey Management
We’ve put this chapter in as a way of assisting people in every aspect of their working life – not just the time they have to spend at the wheel. Using simple but effective tools, we demonstrate how to claw back more useful time, and how it really does make sense to spend some time planning a journey.

12 Driving Green
We say “You don’t have to own a car with a green label in order to drive green!” We also help plot the clear relationship between advanced driving and green driving. There’s also a plan devised by our research team to show how you can save £1,000 or more a year by adopting some simple ‘green’ tactics.

Managers and training staff video
Our concise presentation for managers and training staff examines the finer points of working with driving risk reduction. We suggest a number of techniques and offer advice on how to develop a simple risk assessment tool into something tangible and useful in your own working environment.
